I didn’t always dive with red fins. My first pair for my open water class was a pair of plain ole black Scubapro Jet Sport. I bought them along with the mask and snorkel required for my open water class. They didn’t even make it through the first dive. I was out helping my instructor tie buoys to the underwater platforms used for training. Afterwards, we went on a little underwater tour, he dragging me by my console. Somewhere along the way, I lost a fin. It disappeared into the hydrilla never to be seen again. It became a running joke with my diver friends, me making out of the lake still wearing both fins. To my knowledge, that one fin has never been recovered either. That also became a running joke for every class, find the lost fin. I finally said if that one fins was ever gonna be found, we’d have to hire Bob Ballard.
